Where scientific discovery becomes medical reality
Translational medicine brings together many disciplines with multiple skills and assets, scientific and clinical, with a common goal of improving healthcare.
Innovations in healthcare are currently fragmented, slow and often do not bring tangible benefits to people. The principal barriers are scientific and clinical silos, weak integrated informatics and insufficient knowledge and skills in one place to bring about transformative innovation.
Institute of Translational Medicine aims to break down these barriers and promote specific interactions across disciplines and with industry to accelerate development of innovations into concepts and assets that directly benefit healthcare. It brings together people with relevant skills from different disciplines, such as cancer, inflammation, rare diseases and bioengineering, and provides infrastructure, such as informatics, biorepositories and a stratified medicine laboratory, to speed up the translation of new discoveries into health applications.
The research expertise showcased at the ITM builds upon the strength of and will seek to further the UK research landscape.
